Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Daily Play.
What is Daily Play?
Daily Play is a free, browser-based football trivia game. Every day a new mystery player is revealed through their career history — clubs, seasons, and country flags — and you have to guess who they are. No downloads or subscriptions required.
When do new challenges appear?
A brand-new daily riddle goes live every day at midnight (UTC). The challenge is the same for every player around the world, so you can compare results with friends. Come back daily to keep your streak alive and climb the leaderboard.
How many attempts do I get?
You have 3 attempts per question. Each wrong guess unlocks a new hint — first the player's position, then their nationality — to help you narrow down the answer. Use your attempts wisely to maximise your score.
What are the two game modes?
Daily Challenge is the main mode — one new mystery player per day that affects your streak and leaderboard ranking. Penalty Mode lets you practice anytime with a random riddle. Penalty games do not affect your streak or leaderboard position, so they are perfect for warming up or playing more after you have completed the daily challenge.
How does the scoring system work?
You start with 1,000 base points per question. Points are deducted for time taken (10 points per second) and extra attempts (100 points each). Bonuses are awarded for speed (answering in under 30 seconds), accuracy (first or second try), and difficulty (harder players have higher multipliers up to 1.6x). Your active streak also multiplies your score, up to a maximum of 3x.
How do streaks work?
Your streak tracks consecutive days where you answer the daily challenge correctly. Each day you get it right, your streak grows by one. Miss a day or get the answer wrong and it resets to zero. Streaks act as a score multiplier — a 5-day streak gives 1.5x, a 10-day streak gives 2x, and the maximum is 3x at 20+ days. Only the Daily Challenge counts toward your streak.
What do the letter grades mean?
After each game your score is converted into a letter grade: S (2,000+ points) is master level, A (1,500+) is excellent, B (1,000+) is very good, C (500+) is good, and D (200+) is average. Grades give you a quick snapshot of how well you performed.
Do I need an account to play?
No — you can play immediately without creating an account. However, registering with your email (free, takes a few seconds) lets you save your scores, track your statistics over time, and appear on the global leaderboard. After finishing a game you will see a prompt to save your points.
What are achievements?
Achievements are badges you unlock for exceptional performances. They are grouped into four categories: speed (answering in under 10, 20, or 30 seconds), accuracy (first try, two tries, perfect game), score (reaching 1,000, 1,500, or 2,000+ points), and streak (maintaining 3, 5, or 10+ day winning streaks).
How is difficulty determined?
Each player is assigned a difficulty rating — Easy, Medium, Hard, or Expert — based on how well-known they are and how distinctive their career path is. Easy players have short, recognisable careers. Expert players have long, complex careers spanning many countries. Harder players reward more points through their difficulty multiplier.
Can I play in Spanish?
Yes! Daily Play is fully available in both English and Spanish. You can switch languages at any time using the language toggle in the top navigation bar. All content, hints, career data, and interface elements are translated.
Where can I learn more about the players featured in the game?
Visit the Players section accessible from the footer or navigation bar. There you will find profiles for all footballers featured in the game, including their career timelines, statistics, nationalities, and fun facts. It is a great way to prepare for future challenges.
