Antoine Griezmann is a French World Cup winner whose entire club career has been played in Spain, and the reason goes back to his childhood. Born in March 1991, he was turned away by several French academies for being too small, and at thirteen he crossed the border to join Real Sociedad's youth system in the Basque Country. That early rejection shaped everything: he grew up as a footballer in San Sebastián, absorbing Spanish football from the inside, and when he made his senior debut for Real Sociedad in 2009 he was already more a product of La Liga than of the French game.

The Real Sociedad chapter ran until July 2014, five seasons in which a slight, inventive left-footer turned into a forward who could score, create and press. Later that month he joined Atlético Madrid, and the Madrid years from 2014 to 2019 lifted him into the world elite. Atlético asked its forwards to work without the ball as hard as they did with it, and Griezmann thrived inside that demand, becoming the side's attacking reference.

His international peak arrived in the same window. At Euro 2016, played on home soil, he finished as the tournament's top scorer and was named its best player. Two years later, in 2018, he won the FIFA World Cup with France. One of his fun facts frames his value to the national side from another angle: he holds the record for the most assists for France in the last fifty years, ahead of names such as Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane.

In July 2019 he moved to Barcelona, a two-year spell that ended in August 2021 and remains the least settled stretch of his career. At the end of that window he went back to Atlético Madrid, the club where his best football had come, and the record shows him there ever since. The return paid off on a historic scale: the hints stored for him note that he became Atlético's all-time top goalscorer.

His grid therefore has a neat symmetry, Real Sociedad, then Atlético, then Barcelona, then Atlético again, all four stops in the same country. The recorded totals stand at 798 appearances, 297 goals and 111 assists. Away from football, his interests lean American: he is a devoted follower of basketball and the NBA, and he even hosted his own NFL podcast, Grizi Huddle. Spanish supporters know him as El Principito, the Little Prince, while in France he is often simply Grizou, and both nicknames suit a forward whose career began with being told he was too small.
