About Dušan Tadić

Dušan Tadić has spent most of his career proving that a left-footed playmaker without blistering pace can still decide matches in almost any league. Born in November 1988 in Serbia, he started at Vojvodina in Novi Sad in 2006 and, over the next two decades, played in Serbia, the Netherlands, England, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates. The Dutch chapters, three of them in total, are what built his reputation.

He moved from Vojvodina to Groningen in 2010, a typical first step abroad for a Balkan player: a solid Eredivisie club where a creative midfielder could get regular minutes and learn a new pace of game. Two seasons later he joined FC Twente, a bigger stage in Enschede, and there his numbers in assists started to draw attention from abroad. He was the kind of player who did not need to beat three defenders; he needed half a yard and one look up. Corners, free kicks and penalties tended to become his responsibility wherever he went.

Southampton brought him to the Premier League in 2014. On the south coast he spent four seasons as one of the main creative outlets of a club known for developing and selling talent, usually starting on the left and drifting inside. England showed he could handle physical football, but it was the return to the Netherlands that turned a good career into a memorable one.

Ajax signed him in 2018, and in his first season the club had an extraordinary run in the Champions League, eliminating Real Madrid and Juventus before falling in the semi-final. Tadić, often used as a false nine in that team, was at the centre of it, and his performance in the 4-1 win at the Bernabéu is the one most people remember. He went on to captain Ajax and became one of the leaders of the dressing room over five seasons in Amsterdam.

In 2023 he moved to Fenerbahçe in Istanbul, taking his experience to the Süper Lig, and in 2025 he joined Al Wahda in Abu Dhabi, where he is still active. For Serbia he has been a long-serving international and, in later years, the captain, a role that suited a player who had become the senior voice in almost every dressing room he entered.

The leagues of his career include the Eredivisie, the Premier League and the Süper Lig, plus the Turkish cup, a spread that few playmakers of his generation can match. The thread connecting all of it is the same: a playmaker who sees the pass first, set pieces delivered with his left foot, and a habit of being the most composed player on the pitch.
